Personal Biography
My family moved around a lot as I was growing up. My father, David E. Becker, is a Musician and University Professor. My mother, two younger brothers and myself followed him around the country as he accepted positions with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (1971-73), Memphis State University (1973-75), the University of Georgia (1975-76), Lawrence University (Appleton, WI; 1976-79), Oberlin College (Oberlin, OH; 1979-80) and the University of Miami / FL (1980-84). In the Fall of 1984 my father took a position at the University of Wisconsin at Madison where he remains today.
As a child, I was very shy and spent a lot of time alone drawing, reading nonfiction and experimenting with musical instruments. Both of my parents are professional musicians and I grew up in a rich musical environment. For a time I excelled as a "boy alto" in choirs in Wisconsin, Ohio and Florida including the prestigious Miami Boychoir in 1981. I also noodled on guitars, drums and keyboards quite a bit. My family spent several summers at the Brevard Music Center in North Carolina where my Dad taught summer camp. Those were very formative times for me when I developed a lot creatively and personally.

After high school I enrolled as an art major at the University of Wisconsin/Madison. I learned a lot and developed some skills but didn't see myself following that fine arts path so I left school after two years. Over the next several years I worked regular jobs, got married and enjoyed stints playing in some successful regional rock bands.

In 1996 my wife and I had our first child. I decided to shift my career back toward my artistic strengths so I went to Madison Area Technical College where I got an Associates Degree in Commercial Art in 1997. We’ve since had a second son and I find myself in a satisfying career as a graphic artist while I still pursue musical interests.
